Sister Silvia Chacón Named 2025 Steward of the Year

The Catholic Foundation is honored to announce that Sister Silvia Chacón, Parish Administrator of Santa Teresa Parish in Fort Hancock, has been named the 2025 Steward of the Year.

Each year, through the Steward of the Year contest, pastors, principals, and ministry leaders across the Diocese of El Paso are invited to nominate individuals who embody the call to Pray, Serve, Give. From many inspiring nominations, Sister Silvia was chosen for her extraordinary witness of stewardship.

Sister Silvia is the heart of her small, rural, and predominantly migrant community in far West Texas. With no resident pastor, she has stepped into every role needed to keep parish life thriving—parish life coordinator, confirmation coordinator, choir director, ministry trainer, and even caretaker of the church grounds.

Her ministry extends beyond the parish walls. She comforts grieving families, provides necessities to those in need, and inspires parishioners to serve alongside her. One migrant woman credits Sister Silvia’s kindness for helping her heal and inspiring her to open a secondhand store that now supports the community.

In a place marked by hardship, Sister Silvia is a beacon of Christ’s love. Like St. Teresa of Calcutta, she lives the Gospel with joy, humility, and compassion—meeting people where they are and lifting them up with grace.

Please join us in celebrating Sister Silvia Chacón, our 2025 Steward of the Year, and be inspired to live stewardship more fully in your own parish through prayer, service, and generosity.

Don’t forget to nominate a steward from your community for next year’s Steward of the Year Award! For more information on the 2026 Steward of the Year contest, please contact Karina Sandoval at ksandoval@catholicfoundationelpaso.org or at 915-872-8412.
